Equipping Teen Challenge Ministries (ETCM) is committed to providing training for staff and students in Teen Challenge ministries around the world. Our priority is serve Teen Challenge USA and Global Teen Challenge as they seek to put hope within reach of every addict. ETCM is working to increase the quality of existing training materials and also facilitate the development of new staff training materials and discipleship materials for students in Teen Challenge. We are committed to helping each person reach the full potential God has planned for them.
Dave Batty
Rev. David R. Batty currently serves as missionary to Teen Challenge, giving priority to leadership training and the development of new curriculum. In 40+ years of ministry with Teen Challenge, he has been a writer, teacher, and leader, assisting Teen Challenge ministries around the world. He is author of the Group Studies for New Christians and Personal Studies for New Christians, now used by Teen Challenge around the world for training new Christians.
He has authored Present Day Miracles at Teen Challenge (2003) and co-authored with Ethan Campbell the book, Teen Challenge: 50 Years of Miracles (2008). He has written numerous magazine articles and staff training courses. Since 1978 he has been an international speaker at Teen Challenge conferences, at other national and international conferences, and a guest lecturer at colleges and universities.
He began working with Teen Challenge as a volunteer in 1968 as a college student. Since 1971 he and his wife Patty have devoted their lives to working with Teen Challenge. They worked at Teen Challenge in Brooklyn, New York from 1971-1975. During that time Dave began writing the Group Studies for New Christians, curriculum designed for use in Teen Challenge and similar organizations training new Christians.
From 1977-1997 he worked as the Teen Challenge USA National Curriculum Coordinator and wrote the Group Studies for New Christians and the Personal Studies for New Christians used by students in Teen Challenge centers across the USA and around the world. He also wrote the curriculum AIDS: How Should Christians Respond? and other educational materials related to HIV/AIDS.
From 1997-2007 he served as the Executive Director of Teen Challenge in Brooklyn, New York, during which time he initiated their After School Program and Life Challenge seminars offering help to those with addicted loved ones. He also wrote an extensive series of family resources including Enabling: Are you offering the wrong kind of help, Why not raise the bottom? What are your triggers? and What can you do for your loved one when they don’t want help.
He served as the Chief Operating Officer and then Vice-President of Global Teen Challenge, 2007-2013. His major focus was overseeing the daily operations of this global ministry and coordinating the development of curriculum and staff training resources for use in Teen Challenge. He also assisted in the development of new Teen Challenge ministries around the world. Under his leadership, www.iTeenChallenge.org was established as a library of staff training materials, curriculum and other resources in multiple languages for use by Teen Challenge leaders around the world.
He graduated from Central Bible College, Springfield, Missouri with a B.A. degree (1971) and Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois with a M.A. in communications (1977).
Dave and his wife Patty have two adult children and three grandchildren.
Teen Challenge USA
Teen Challenge USA (TCUSA) serves as the national organization providing leadership and services to the approximately 200 Teen Challenge ministries in the USA and Puerto Rico. TCUSA provides oversight and assistance in the establishment of new Teen Challenge outreaches across the nation. The President of TCUSA serves as a national representative and spokesperson for the constituency of Teen Challenge ministries. The primary role of the national office is to provide leadership by way of accreditation standards, curriculum distribution, a referral source for people who need the services of Teen Challenge, training, and management assistance to enable each local Teen Challenge ministry to accomplish their mission. Teen Challenge began in New York City in 1958, pioneered by Rev. David Wilkerson. His vision was to establish a program that would help youth, adults, and families find freedom from drug addiction and other life-controlling problems. Teen Challenge today is committed to providing youth, adults and families with an effective comprehensive Christian faith-based solution to life-controlling drug and alcohol problems in order to become productive members of society. By applying biblical principles, Teen Challenge endeavors to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive.
Global Teen Challenge
Global Teen Challenge (GTC) is a service organization that exists to serve the more than 1,000 Teen Challenge programs in over 115 nations of the world. According to the United Nations, more than 250 million people struggle with drug abuse. GTC is committed to putting hope within reach of every addict.
The top priority of GTC is to provide training for Teen Challenge leaders, staff and students. Working in partnership with Teen Challenge USA, GTC created www.iTeenChallenge.org which serves as an open source library of staff training materials, student curriculum, and other resources to assist Teen Challenge programs around the world.
GTC assists in the establishment of new Teen Challenge programs. Currently there are 20+ nations requesting assistance in setting up their first Teen Challenge. A key part of the long term success of every Teen Challenge center is having a sustainability plan. GTC provides assistance in strategic planning and loans for sustainability projects.
